Thanks, Adrienne!

Hi Dave! Didn't know you stitch(ed). You should take it up again sometime, especially if you find yourself on a lot of telecons. :-)

I would say it depends on the item. Crocheting with thread does result in some really beautiful lace. I haven't gotten into that yet myself, though I did secure some thread and tiny hooks so I could give it a go sometime. And I love the blankets I've crocheted -- to the point of keeping one rather than giving it away as the gift it was intended to be! And crochet is faster going. But most crocheted clothes, other than scarves I suppose, tend to look extremely dubious to me because they're more lumpy. (Not that knitted patterns are immune from dorkiness. -- Oh darn, just noticed that Threadbared is ending its run!)

I suspect I'll go back and forth depending on what it is that I have the urge to make, or wear, or give away.

But don't you think that crochet just looks so much better when finished?
Agreed knitting is generally far more practical, but as a craft.. I find crochet so much more satisfying? And the finished articles are so much tougher! I'm still using doillys my grandmother made fifty years ago!

Must admit though, I haven't done any for about 30 years.
