In case anyone's curious about the Rest of the Story, I ended up going back to the AT&T salesperson I originally bought the Treo from to see if he could help me. He offered me my original $99 deal on a new 680 if I extended my contract, and I was only 6 months into my 24, so we sealed the deal.

In case anyone's curious how you hard-reset a Treo 680 when you can't see the screen :-), I found and applied these <a href="http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.palmtops.pilot/browse_thread/thread/7f38baf756e75ef3/4b95843e12e7646c" rel="nofollow">instructions</a>, and simply hope they worked!

Thanks, Ben. Looking for 650s at Woot.com is a good idea. (I did place some naive/hopeful bids on eBay for various 680s and failed miserably.) I'd love to get an unlocked 680 but am not willing to pay multiple hundreds to get it!

I've seen Woot.com occasionally have unlocked GSM Treo 650's for about $130... of course, it's very unpredictable and you have to jump quickly to get one.

An unlocked 680 goes for $399... eBayers seem to have AT&T or Cingular ones that have been unlocked for $320ish.
